William Harold Lien, age 66, passed away on June 20, 2023, at UW Hospital in Madison.
He was born August 9, 1956, the fourth son of Reginald and June (Valstad) Lien. He was baptized and
confirmed at Burke Lutheran Church. In 1981, Bill met a blue-eyed woman named Debra Hein, who
would later become his wife. They were married August 29, 1992, at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in
Sun Prairie. Bill enjoyed Harley rides, traveling, gardening, and cooking. Bill never learned to cook for
two; he always cooked for many. Bill strived to be the best uncle to his nieces and nephews, and dearly
loved his cats Zoey and Luna. Bill had many friends he could be counted on to lend a hand, offer his
opinion, and wished to always be a true, reliable friend. He loved all Wisconsin sports and attended
many events. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Randall, Sheldon, Tom and an infant
niece, Angela. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, siblings Charles, Rena, Steve, Teresa and Julie (Jim)
Kachel. A visitation will be held at Burke Lutheran Church in Madison on July 18, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with
the service following at 11:00 a.m. After a graveside service, lunch will be held at the church. In lieu of
flowers, memorials can be made to Burke Lutheran Church or the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge, that myth is more potent than history.
That dreams are more powerful than facts, that hope always triumphs over experience.
That laughter is the only cure for grief, and I believe that love is stronger than death.
