William Kurtz
February 17, 1947 — February 29, 2024
Bill Kurtz passed away February 29th, 2024, following his 77th birthday. Although he was fighting cancer, a heart attack took his life.
Bill’s medical issues over the past six months showed his courage, strength, and fight for life. Despite it all, his infectious smile and positive attitude were always present.
The simplest things brought him the most joy. His years working at Heileman Baking built so many lasting friendships. His most joy came from owning and running his Interstate Battery distributorship. The people far and wide he met meant the world to him. Hunting at the cabin with his lifelong friends and family were at the top of his list. We were never sure what went on ‘North of 64’. Bill loved to work in his garage and could fix anything for anyone with his collection of “necessary” tools. His garage was his place for BS and beverages. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, grandkids, granddogs, and was always open to new friends. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, squirt-gun fights with his grandkids, side-by-side rides, being at the lake, Christmas in the forest (in “Papa’s Forest”), cookouts, campfires, designing the Christmas gifts for his grandkids, teaching the grandkids to operate his big boy toys, and so many more.
The experiences with the neighborhood kids over the years have turned into life-long memories and laughs for all those he touched. “Filet and release”, being a pig farmer, for sale signs on trucks that were not his and not for sale, rides on the GO-JO, throwing quarters in the driveway, Christmas tree fires, and drinks under the oak tree to name a few. Tormenting the neighbors with bottle rockets and spud-guns brought him so many laughs. The stories are endless and will last a lifetime. He lived life to the fullest.
Bill’s legacy lives on with his ever-growing circle of family and friends: Ardell, his wife of 57 years, his two daughters, Dawne (Kevin) Romundstad, and Laurie (Lee) Douglas, his most precious grandkids, Karlie, Morgan, Mitch, Jake (Katie), and Tyler, his brother Jim (Pat) Kurtz, his brothers and sisters in law, Tim & Sharon Normand, Glen & LuAnn Zwiefelhofer, Dale & Mary Zwiefelhofer, and the 20+ years of friendship with his multiple coffee groups. Special thanks to Rick and Linda.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, sisters Sandy, Pat, and Kathy, brothers-in-law Harry, Dave, and Allen, son-in-law John, and nephew Dan.
Thanks to all who were a part of his journey. It was an honor to have lived life with him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider doing a random act of kindness in honor of Bill.
