William Wayne "Bill" Cook, age 85, peacefully passed away on December 29, 2023, at home in Eau Claire, WI. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on November 13, 1938, in Cecilia, Kentucky to Alvin Sr. and Velma (Horn) Cook. In October of '56 Bill joined the United States Air Force serving in the Fire Crash Rescue Unit out of Duluth, Minnesota. While serving he met Arlene Tollefson and they later married in November, 1959. Their beginning years were spent in Cutler, Indiana near Bill's family. The couple later relocated to Eleva, Wisconsin where Arlene passed away in July of 1976. Bill Married again in September of 1979 to Donna Arneson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. In May of 1995 the family also lost Donna. Bill was a mechanic most of his life. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bike rides, dancing and spending time with his family. Bill was proud to be a southern boy and very much a social butterfly with a magnetic personality that brought joy to those around him.
Bill is survived by three children: daughter, Beth Cook (Jeff Murray); son, Travis Arneson (Tammy); daughter, Tracy Cook (Taylor Brenny). Five granddaughters: Amanda Gamroth, Kaila Cook, Mandi Walhovd, Samantha Cook and Markella Fiore. Three great granddaughters: Nevaeh, Kianna, and Olivia. One sister, Diana Dilling; one brother, George; one brother-in-law, Mike Dilling; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was also preceded in death by parents: Alvin Sr. and Velma Cook; brothers: Alvin Jr., Robert, and Glenn; sisters: Mary and Nancy.
A celebration of life will be held at the VFW Post 305 (1300 Starr Avenue Eau Claire, WI 54703) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, February 4th, 2024. The burial will be located at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery (N4063 Veterans Way Spooner, WI 54801) and take place on February 5th, 2024 at 11:00am.
