Obituary of Thomas A. Starr

Traveling days on this earth are ended for Thomas Albin Starr, age 70, who unexpectedly passed away on the afternoon of August 30, 2023, at his home in the town of Lafayette, Chippewa Falls.

Thomas was born in Stanley, WI on January 23, 1953, the son of Edmund G. Staroselec and Marjorie M. (Slota) Staroselec. In his early years, he attended school in Gilman WI, later moving with his family to Menomonee Falls, WI. where he graduated from High School. Coming from a family that valued education, Thomas attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, and a Law Degree in 1978 from Loyola University in Chicago. He began his law practice in Chippewa Falls, and served as Chippewa County District Attorney from 1989-1990. For 25 years, describing himself as a country lawyer, he served mostly rural clients at Starr Law Office in Boyd, WI. When retiring, he stated to his longtime secretary “we did a good job and helped a lot of people”.

Following in his Mother’s footsteps, Thomas loved to travel. After college, he biked around Europe and as an adult traveled extensively in the U.S. Caribbean, and Europe. After marriage to Silvia, Thomas enjoyed annual trips to Argentina and other South American countries. In Wisconsin, he visited every cheese factory he could locate always searching for the perfect cheese. In retirement, he dabbled in painting and poetry, sausage making, and cooking gourmet meals with multiple courses and good wines. Like his Father before him, Tom always had a hunting dog as he enjoyed the challenge of a good bird hunt. Always interested in genealogy and family history, Thomas regularly reached out to family through phone calls and texts. We will miss hearing from Thomas, but will remember all the stories he shared with us.

Thomas leaves behind his wife Silvia Ana Lia Lanus Starr, daughter Kristina Starr, sister Mary (Gerald) Skalecki, brothers George (Kathy) Staroselec, Edmund (Maureen) Staroselec, father-inlaw Adonis Lanus, mother-in-law Rita Reynoso Lanus, brother-in-law Gustavos Lanus, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Per Thomas’s wishes, he has been cremated and there will be no formal services.
