Susan Miller

Susan E. Miller, age 73, of Altoona died on November 12, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital at Eau Claire. Sue was born on March 20, 1951 in Chilton, Wisconsin. Daughter of O. Clayton and lone (Kersten) Miller. She was the 5th child of 8 children.

Raised on a small dairy farm in the Chilton area, Sue and her siblings learned at an early age the meaning of hard work. Everyone played a role in the tasks necessary to keep the farm running, whether it was milking cows working the fields or tending to a large garden.

Sue attended Chilton High and participated in band, chorus, and school plays. Upon graduating, Sue spent the summer staying with her brother Bob and her sister-in-law Jan in Orlando, Florida where Bob was stationed with the U.S. Navy. Sue quickly obtained a job at a grocery store, saving money for college. She returned to Wisconsin in the Fall of 1969 and promptly headed to Eau Claire to attend the university.

Sue received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973, and a Master of Science degree in 1975. After moving to Wichita, KS, Sue worked as as Assistant Director of the Wichita Women's Center. In 1981 Sue decided to return to Eau Claire and took a manager's position at Brown Photo. She then worked as a Field Director for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

For many years Sue worked with REACH and Northwest Wisconsin Homecare in Eau Claire. She also spent many years with Gordy's of Eau Claire. Throughout Sue's career, her excellent work ethic was cited in her many job reviews, a testament to her upbringing.

In addition to her many jobs throughout her career, Sue was a member of the Eau Claire County Board, serving District 22 for more than 25 years. She also served on the ad hoc committee for Aging and Disability Resource Center. From 2005 to 2010 she served on the Steering Committee of Chippewa Valley Caregiving Alliance. She also served on the Western Dairyland RSVP Advisory Committee, Triniteam Board of Directors and the Eau Claire Special Transport Board.

Sue's life meant so much to young women everywhere, inspiring them to pursue their dreams, and believe in their potential. She set an example, showing that women can overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. Sue's legacy lives on, reminding young women that they can make a difference. She taught young women that their voices do matter, and they can change the world, in both big and small ways. One of Sue's great passions was amateur photography. For many years she was instrumental in recording family and friend's weddings and special occasions.

In addition to family, Sue will be missed by the many friends she made over the years in Eau Claire, and will be missed at her favorite watering hole, The Mousetrap.

She is survived by her siblings, Jim (Betty) Miller, Chilton, Bob (Jan) Miller, Sherwood, Kathy (friend Gene), Laurie, MO, Patricia Miller, Chilton, Steve(Linda) Miller, Chilton. She is furthered survived by her sister in laws Sidonia Miller of Frisco, TX, and Sharon (Bill) Kartheiser, Green Lake, WI., and many nieces, a nephew, and many cousins.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers John and Tom.

A memorial service is planned for the Spring of 2025 at Stokes Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel in Altoona. A date for this will be announced at a later date.
