Steven Mark Polzin: A Life Celebrated in Memories and Moments
October 28, 1957 - November 27, 2023
Steven Mark Polzin, aged 66, of Eau Claire, WI, passed away peacefully at his home after a sudden and short illness on November 27, 2023. Born in Killeen, TX, to Del and Grace (Kanis) Polzin, Steve's journey began in Texas, took an early detour to New Ulm, Germany, and eventually rooted itself in the Midwest.
A 1976 graduate of New Ulm High School, Steve's academic path led him to Bemidji State for two years before he settled in La Crosse, WI. It was here that he met the love of his life, Tammy, and embarked on a 42-year marriage filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
Steve's professional life was marked by a successful career at Menards, where he served as a Store Design Manager. In 2000, he took a bold step to follow his passion for woodworking, crafting beautiful custom cabinets and transforming homes, including his own, with his remarkable skills. His work with oak and live edge, his love for building model airplanes, and his affinity for golf, spoke volumes of a man who cherished precision, beauty, and the outdoors.
A devoted Packers and Brewers fan, Steve's enthusiasm for sports was matched only by his love for music, a passion that stayed with him until his final moments. Friends and family will fondly remember the times when Steve's music, occasionally a little too loud, brought life to every gathering.
Steve's philosophy was simple yet profound: quality of life over quantity. This mantra was evident in the joy he found in camping, from humble tents to lavish 5th wheels, and in the unforgettable vacations to Jamaica with a cherished circle of friends. His words, though few, were impactful and iconic, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his mother Grace, brother Scott, sister-in-law Laura, mother-in-law Leona, and brother-in-law John, Steve's legacy continues through those he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife Tammy; sons Ryan and Tyler; his father Del; his brother Mark (Megan) Polzin; his sisters-in-law Debby (Joe) Young, Diane (Rick) Engebrecht; his father-in-law Arlan; nieces and nephews Michael, Neil, & Nolan Polzin, Suzanne (Jason) Marquardt, Mathew (Codi) Young, Marie (John) Tutlewski; Great nieces and nephews Jasmine, Kayla, Jackson and Brooks; and not least, his beloved kitty, Sammy, 'the best cat ever'.
In lieu of traditional services, we invite friends and family to celebrate Steve's life by sharing memories, photos, and favorite stories. A picture board will be arranged to reflect the many facets of his life – family, friends, vacations, college, his younger and older years. These shared memories will serve as a testament to a life well-lived, a life cherished by many.
In honor of Steve, we ask that you remember him not in mourning but in joy. Celebrate his journey, his impact, and the countless memories he has left us. Let us all find comfort in knowing that Steve's philosophy of life continues to inspire and guide us.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona with Pastor Mark Schulz officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
