Steven Gene Duffenbach, 78, of Eau Claire passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Steven was born on November 10, 1945, to Eugene and Yvonne Duffenbach. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War, aboard the USS Yorktown. Steven was honorably discharged in 1967. Steven then returned home to Eau Claire.He met Suzanne Kelly and they married in 1968. Together they had two children, Michelle and Michael. They later divorced but remained friends through the years.
Steven was employed at Uniroyal in Eau Claire for 24 years. Following his employment at Uniroyal, he returned to school to pursue an education in nursing.
Steven always put others first, including the community of Eau Claire. His dedication to the people of Eau Claire led him to serve on the Eau Claire Parks and Waterways Commission from 2009-2015. Over several decades he also served the residents of Eau Claire as a member of the Carson Park Master Plan Committee, Half Moon Lake Community Partnership Team, Half Moon Lake Implementation Task Force and Friends Of Half Moon Lake.
Steven had a great love of nature, which forged the family tradition of hunting and fishing. Steven loved spending time with family and friends and helped them in any way he could. Steven showed his passion for the outdoors through his beautiful yard and flower gardens and enjoyed working on his car in his spare time.
Steven is survived by his daughter; Michelle Duffenbach, son; Michael Duffenbach and partner Tracy Phillips, grandson Cullen Duffenbach, significant other; Dolores Dale, brother; Jerry McDonel, sister; Cheryl Guettinger and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by father; Eugene Duffenbach, Mother; Yvonne Weichel, and Grandparents Al and Anva Weichel, who played a large role in Steven’s life. Steven was a wonderful grandfather, father, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona with Pastor Patrick Patterson officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire with full military honors.
