Stephen Hawkes

Stephen James Hawkes, ("Hawkeye") age 80 of Eau Claire WI passed away on July 25, 2024 at home.
Steve was born on Sept. 4, 1943 to James (Mac) and Helen Hawkes in Berwyn IL. He spent most of his early years in Dubuque, Iowa and Oak Park, Illinois and met his wife, Judy, in 1965 while both were working at Oak Park Federal Savings Bank. Steve and Judy were married on January 1966, moved to Eau Claire soon after, and remained there until his death.
Steve is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Macke Hawkes, his daughter Holly Larson (Todd), son, Stephen "Dee" Hawkes (Julia), and his daughter Kim Jacobson (Allen Pete). He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Carter (Olivia) Larson, Madison (fiancée Makenna Kullman) Larson, Eleanor & Joe Hawkes and great grandchildren, Anna, Luke, Corbin & Clayton Larson.
Steve had a successful career as a salesman for Packaging Corporation of America and in retirement enjoyed traveling with Judy, vacations with all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, time at their cabin, and anytime spent with family. He had fun with his buddies at Grizzly's and loved to enjoy cigars and beers. He was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago White Sox, and the Green Bay Packers, and cared for all animals, especially dogs and elephants.
He taught us how to work hard, to never give up, to question everything, and to be there when you are needed. A man of quick wit and humor, he kept his inner circle small, and those that were so lucky to be in that inner circle always knew it. He will be missed immensely.
Steve was predeceased by his sister, Sandra, brother Bill and his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
