Shirley A. Brown, age 86, of Barron, passed away peacefully at Our House Nursing Home in Rice Lake on Friday, October 13, 2023. Shirley was born in Osgood, Indiana on October 10, 1937 to Perrell and Florence (Bostic) Salyers.
Shirley was a tiny but strong woman who loved being a wife, and mother. She had a lot of energy and loved the outdoors. Shirley enjoyed fishing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, camping, and canoeing the boundary waters. Among her proudest moments was making a hole in one at the Rolling Oaks Golf Course in Barron.
She was a secretary to the Superintendent of Muscatatuck State School in Indiana and secretary to the Superintendent of Social Services in Durand. She also volunteered on the St. Joseph’s Church Board in Barron.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Herbert; her daughters, Jayne (DuWayne) Shelley, Rene’ (John) Spare and Joan (Dave) Zorn; her grandchildren: Bob Subrt, Nicole Subrt, Karak Bushman and Jaden Kundinger; seven great grandchildren; her brother Mark (Deanna) Salyers; and her niece Susan (Doug) Christianson.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her brother, Paul Salyers and her sisters, Hilda Lustig and Jane Paulson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (NOON) on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Stokes, Prock, and Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 South Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner.
