Sharon Tarr

July 11, 1944 — October 20, 2022

Sharon Ann Tarr, age 78, of Spooner, WI passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022 with her niece by her side. Sharon was born to James and Helen (Smith) Tarr on July 11, 1944 in Spooner.

After graduating from Spooner High School in 1962, Sharon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UW-Eau Claire, majoring in French and History. She went on to teach High School French for three years in Mosinee, WI, later pursuing a graduate degree in Counseling from UW-Stout.

Sharon was employed as a typesetter at the Spooner Advocate for many years. She went on to work at the Spooner Information Booth and the Spooner Public Library, retiring in 2012.

Sharon had a keen interest in history and genealogy. Not only did she extensively trace her own family’s roots, but she was always happy to assist others in discovering theirs. Through compiling several volumes of local history, Sharon made lasting connections with many area families.

Sharon enjoyed traveling, often with her parents, with some highlights being trips to Alaska, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. She visited 40 states and 6 National Parks. She and her sister Margie also shared many adventures over the years. They especially enjoyed country music festivals and trips to Canal Park in Duluth.

Sharon is survived by her niece Sue Van Cleave (Don Harvey) of La Crosse, WI; nephews Mark (Lucy) McAllister of Las Cruces, New Mexico and James (Anne) McAllister of Eugene, Oregon; eight great nieces and nephews; and five great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and sisters Marilyn in 1943 and Margie in 2021.

In keeping with Sharon’s wishes, a private burial with be held at Anah Cemetery.
