Shannon Marie Kelley Johnson, 70, died on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at home surrounded by family.
Shannon was born on June 10,1953 in Duluth, MN to Dr. Walter and Elda (Crawford) Kelley, and raised in Eau Claire, WI. After graduating from Eau Claire Memorial High School on June 2, 1971, Shannon attended McCalister College, eventually graduating cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on August 7, 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
On August 10, 1974, Shannon and David Ernest Johnson were united in marriage at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI. With joy and thanksgiving, Sarah Marie was welcomed into their family on March 27, 1989.
Shannon lived and worked in the Eau Claire and Menomonie areas, finally retiring after 20 years of being a co-business owner with her husband in their Home Medical Equipment Center.
Shannon valued family and friends, her faith and being a member in her church. She was kind hearted, conveyed empathy with sick and hurting family/friends, delighted in a good laugh, always enjoyed a good book and carried herself with grace.
Shannon is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Elda; brother Dennis; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ernest and Norma (Rognlien) Johnson; husband David Ernest; and brother-in-law John J. Hazen.
Shannon is survived by her daughter Sarah (Josh Lanphere); grandchildren Dominick, Emily, Hailey, and Garrett. She is further survived by sister Rev. Laura J. Kelley; brothers Tom (Cheri Lyon and Ethan) Kelley and John (Donna Kroll, Isabella, Sophie, and William) Kelley; and sister Mary Kelley Hazen. Shannon also has many surviving relatives.
With gratitude, we thank the health care teams at the Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire, the Mayo Hospice, the members/staff of First Congregational Church, and the Brain and Body Fitness Program (Laurie Pettis -Coordinator) for their expert care and compassion in journeying with Shannon through many years of health challenges.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 AM with the Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 AM., officiated by Rev. Dr. Mark Pirazzini at First Congregational Church, 310 Broadway Street, Eau Claire, WI. The family requests any Memorials in Shannon’s name be made to the First Congregational Church or to the Eau Claire County ARDC Dementia Programs, or Eau Claire YMCA, in honor of The Brain and Body Fitness Program.
