Samuel P. Joseph Miller was born on May 20th, 1988 and lost the battle to himself on December 26th, 2024 at the age of 36.
Sam graduated Sum Cum Laude from Winona State University completing his Master's in Public Administration from Hamline University. He followed in his father's footsteps pursuing a career in law enforcement.
He was well known for his sense of humor, which became apparent at 6 months of age when he mocked his sister's temper tantrum. This waggishness was characterized by a sharp wit and ironic one-liners that captured the ludicrousness of a situation. Sam's youth was marked by outdoor adventures, pranks on people and hours of "couch time" to think about what he did. To the surprise of his parents, he never repeated these transgressions again (at least to his parent's knowledge). Despite his mischievous tendencies, he had a tender heart and would do anything to help people and animals.
Sam met his soulmate, Sarah, September 19th, 2018 on a blind date. Sam managed to hoodwink Sarah into thinking he was a charming individual, the "perfect specimen", if you will. From that day forward, they spent as much time as they could together and talked every single day from 9-18-2018 to 12-26-2024 (except one day and Sarah never let him forget it).
After a beautiful wedding and a honeymoon on the Chippewa Flowage, along came the baby carriage! His first son Teddy was born and Sam changed his first diaper ever at the hospital. He spent his time there pouring over every pamphlet hospital staff gave him to ensure he was doing his best for his son.
After many a beer, diaper changes, and sleepless nights, they made the decision to add another little meat tube to the mix, Sawyer, born on May 30th, 2024. Sam always said how much Sawyer looked like him. Sam loved his boys and looked forward to sharing his passion for nature with them.
Sam flourished in the outdoors and his love for it was admirable. He was truly one with nature. His solace was just being out in the woods or on the lake. Fishing and hunting wasn't about killing things or getting meat in the freezer or drinking with the boys (although be assured many beers were had). It was about relaxation, clearing his head, and appreciating the beauty of what the outdoors could bring. Sam respected the outdoors and held the art of hunting in the highest regard.
Sam held his friends very close, whom his wife dubbed as "Sam's boyfriends". Although time always gets away as life goes on, he frequently talked and reminisced about his time spent with them whether engaged in the art of licking minnows, playing pranks, or "witch hunting" on the boat. Sam loved you all.
Sam is survived by his wife, Sarah and two adorable little turds, Teddy and Sawyer, as well as his parents, Susan and Paul, big sister Carolyn, and MANY family members and friends.
Sam was loved by everyone who met him. Let's please celebrate his life on January 11, 2025 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Westgate Sportsman's Club, 4909 Sportsman Dr S, Eau Claire. Be there with bells on and a story to tell. Open mic will be at 12:00 p.m. (Noon).
