Ronald Porter

Ronald “Ron” Porter, 88, of Altoona, WI passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Marshfield Medical Center in Eau Claire, WI.

He was born on April 17, 1935 in Burlington, WI to Lawrence & Helen Porter. Ron graduated from Marshfield High School and was a farmer, truck driver, self-employed salesman and worked many years as a care provider for Aurora Residential Services.

He married Shirley Larson on July 31, 1982. Ron was a faithful Green Bay Packer fan and liked old western TV shows. One of Ron’s favorite past times was a good game of cards with Shirley and dear friends Dan & Leona Pohl. He also enjoyed living his winters in Tucson, AZ, spending time with his family, and he always had a good story to tell!

Ron is survived by his wife Shirley; son’s Rick Porter and Roger Porter; daughter Cheryl Schrofe; 3 step-son’s Scott (Patti) Larson, Bruce (Dianne) Larson and Brad (Cheryl) Larson; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren Atlas, Brinleigh and Chloe King; and many great friends.

Ron was very proud of the five generations.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters Grace, Selma and Laura Jean; 2 brothers Paul and David; sons Gary Porter and Ken Porter; 1 granddaughter Britta Larson; 2 great-granddaughters Samantha Brewer and Neely Brewer.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Marshfield Cancer Center and the care team at Marshfield Medical Center for all the great care he was given in his final days.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Eleva Park in Eleva, WI.
