Roger "RT" Thornby: A Tribute to a Life Well-Lived
Roger "RT" Thornby passed away on March 2, 2024, due to complications from cancer, leaving behind a legacy built on dedication, love, and the kind of stories that stick with you. Born in New Richmond on September 8, 1953, and a long-standing resident of Tilden, WI, RT devoted 40 years to working at Jennie-O Feed mill, where his skills and commitment as a maintenance technician were unmatched.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orvie (Gehler) and Layton Thornby; step-father, Nels Hanson; mother-in-law, Loretta Sullivan; and brother, Lynn Thornby. RT's memory lives on through his wife, Susan Thornby, whom he shared a partnership filled with support and love since their marriage on June 14, 1996. He is also survived by his children, Jeff (Sally) Thornby, Jamie (Mark) DeHusson, Kurtis Thornby, Tyler Thornby; grandchildren, Maddie DeHusson, Caleb Manor; sisters, Mary (Marty) Zulke, Bonnie Freeberg; sisters-in-law, Mary Anderson, Catherine Sullivan, Rose Geist; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who found in him a mentor, a source of laughter, and an unwavering support.
RT's passions ranged from the great outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting and camping, to the roar of his Harley. He was a man of many talents, known for his resourcefulness, culinary skills, and a deep appreciation for music and sports. A Packers fan through and through, RT's gatherings were often filled with the sounds of cheering for the team or the tunes of classic rock.
A man with a voice that commanded attention yet spoke with kindness, RT's approach to life was marked by patience, strength, and a remarkable ability to bring joy into any room. His legacy is not just in the work he did or the hobbies he enjoyed but in the countless lives he touched with his generosity, humor, and the stories he loved to tell.
RT's life was a testament to the impact one person can have through simple acts of kindness, a warm smile, and a commitment to the people and passions that filled his life. He will be deeply missed but remembered fondly through the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the love he gave so freely, as well as his down-to-earth approach to life.
Services to honor RT’s life will be held at 6 PM on March 15, 2024 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S Hillcrest Pkwy Altoona, WI officiated by his grandson, Caleb Manor. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until time of service.
