Roger Dale Moen; born May 2,1961 passed away at the age of 63 on Saturday November 30, 2024 in Rochester MN; following a long and courageous fight with terminal cancer.
He was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1979. On May 25, 1985, he married the love of his life: Jocelyn (Lyn) Anderson.
Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy earlier that year; and their first child; daughter (Jennifer Jocelyn) was born in Norfolk, VA where he was stationed while his ship was being built in Bath, Maine. Roger spent time in Newport, Rhode Island during his time in the Navy, and embarked on his ship; The USS Samuel B Roberts FFG-58, in the spring of 1986. During his naval career, he spent time on the Atlantic Ocean, stopping at many ports including Nassau, Cuba, the U.S. Virgin Islands; even passing through the Bermuda Triangle. Upon discharge; he returned to join his lovely bride and young daughter Jennifer, now residing in New London, WI.
In 1987 the couple moved to Rochester, MN and became the proud parents of their son Gavin Robert. Roger took a job as a commercial printer; and was one of 2 employees that were granted the opportunity to be sent to California for training on a State of the Art Heidelberg 4 Color Printing Press. His job included interacting with local artists who would bring their original work in to have Roger print numbered copies. It was Roger's job to match the paint on his printer to replicate the original artwork. The customer would then come in and give their approval to print the remaining numbers of copies ordered. Roger's perfection and attention to detail made him highly recommended to other customers; and he took great pride in that knowledge.
Roger had the greatest love & pride for his grandson, Austin Galbreath (currently active in the U.S. Navy); and his two cherished granddaughters, Brenna and Claira Nelson.
Our memories of Roger include: his love and commitment to his family and friends; his willingness to go out of his way to help others. He was often seen plowing out a neighbor's driveway or pulling a stranger out of a ditch in winter time.
He loved the great outdoors. He loved fishing, spending time on the lake and took great pride in his garden and maintaining his beautiful lawn and landscaping.
Roger will be dearly missed by everyone whose paths he crossed.
Roger was preceded in death by a wonderful set of parents; Donald and Dorothy (Brantner) Moen.
He is survived by his siblings, Rodney, Robert, Steven (Karen), Deborah (Randy) Patrow, Thomas (Janelle) and Richard. His was preceded in death by an older brother Randy (Diane).
He looked forward each year to joining his Dad, his brothers and cousins, and his best friend Dan Key (Sheila) on the Moen Family hunting land in Meridean, WI. Dan was like a brother to Roger; and many times, during the course of his illness he would call and boost his spirits which in turn kept Roger motivated to keep fighting the cancer.
Any monetary gifts will be gratefully accepted & go towards the purchase of a Memory Stone at the Chippewa Valley veterans memorial Park in Altoona WI.
Donations to esophageal cancer research at Mayo Clinic are also gratefully accepted.
