Robert “Andre” Wells, 84, of Chippewa Falls died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at home in Chippewa Falls.
Andre was born on September 17 1933, in Chippewa Falls, to Floyd E. and Madeline (Anderson) Wells. He grew up in Chippewa Falls, and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School. In 1952 he was employed at U.S. Rubber Co. (Uniroyal). He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1952 to 1954 as field radio mechanic, overseas.
Jobs at Honeywell and Canada Dry in Minneapolis, MN kept Andre employed from 1955 to 1957, when he returned to Chippewa Falls and started working for the Soo Line Railroad as a fireman and moving into the engineer’s position.
On September 27, 1958 he married Marilyn (Kirby) in Chippewa Falls. Andre enjoyed aviation, receiving his private pilot’s license, hunting, and daily coffee with the guys.
Andre, a third-generation railroad engineer was employed by the Soo Line Railroad in Chippewa Falls, WI and Minneapolis, MN for 38 years, retiring in 1996. After retirement, Andre served as the handyman for River Country Co-Op.
Andre is survived by his wife, Marilyn and their children, Laura (Tom) Larson of Chippewa Falls, Mike (Lorna) Wells of Chippewa Falls, Kevin (Pam) Wells of Elko, NV and Wendy (Alan) Lee of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren, Holly (Joel) Hunt, Mitchell (Bryanna) Larson, Brett Larson, Nicholas and Madalyn Wells, Bradley, Andrew and Jessiqua Wells, Brady (Taylor) Lee, Lyndsey Lee, and two great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews; relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Madeline Wells, brothers and sisters; Winifred (Ben) Domer and Nancy (James) McLaughlin; and brothers, Floyd Jr. (Delores) Wells and Clifford (Joyce) Wells, James (Betty) Wells.
A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Friday May 25, 2018 at Stokes Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 South Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona, WI.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
