Robert Victor Curtis passed away on Sunday, January 19th at Milestone Memory Care in Eau Claire. He was born on March 13, 1942 in Eau Claire to Walter and Ione Curtis. Bob grew up in Eau Claire, graduated from Memorial High School in 1960, and spent his entire life in the Eau Claire area. Immediately out of high school he got a job working for a paper company, which eventually became known as Pope & Talbot, until his retirement in 1991. Bob was a family man to say the least. He loved spending time with his parents/siblings, taking road trips to see his kids/ grandchildren, and gathering for holiday get-togethers and family reunions. He would go out of his way to help any family member with vehicles, housing, money, etc., oftentimes when he didn't have the resources to do so.
Bob was passionate about fishing, hunting, traveling, music, and cars from the days of wetting a line at Island Lake as a kid, to decades worth of fishing trips to Canada, to his final trip to Lake Mille Lacs...he never caught a fish that he didn't think would look good in a frying pan. He loves his time deer hunting, always willing to freeze his tail off, and never harvesting a deer for decades. It was clear he went for the tradition of it all. His trips to Colter Bay in the Tetons, Alaska, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, and Arizona were some of his best memories. Bob loved a variety of music, from Pete Fountain and Louis Armstrong in the Big Band era, to Celine Dion and Carrie Underwood. He was known to dance and roller-skate to his favorite tunes. As far as cars go, if it had speed and a little growl to it, he loved, especially his '56 Buick Wildcat.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ray and Jack, and his wife Jane (Collins). He is survived by his sister, Jean (Jim) Thompson of Menomonie, WI; his daughter, Sheila Peterson (Mike Gleiter) of Lakeville, MN; his son, Charlie Curtis of Onalaska, WI; his daughter, Joey (Bob) Appert of Lake Elmo, MN; his son, Brent (Anne) Curtis of Lakeville, MN; and 7 grandchildren; Joe and Samantha (Sheila and Mike); Haley and Braxton (Charlie); and Alexa, Izzy, and Bobby (Joey and Bob).
