Robert Gagnon
June 23, 1958 — November 13, 2023
He was an All-American and received Wisconsin Player of the Year for football in 1976. He graduated from Regis High School in 1977. Rob went to the University of Notre Dame from 1977 – 1982. His freshman year there, the Fighting Irish won the National Championship and in the 1980 - 1981 seasons, Rob was the starting offensive guard. The 1980 game against Michigan, Rob injured his knee on the game winning field goal.
Rob retired from the City of Los Angeles Department of Revenue in 2014. He was a lifelong entrepreneur promoting health and wellness.
He met his future wife Jill Thornton in 2016 and they were married on May 13, 2023 at the Back of the Moon Campground in Chetek where they loved to spend time.
His hobbies included fishing, boating, spending time with his family and friends, hunting and going to concerts.
Robert is survived by his wife Jill; daughter McKenzie (Trey) Boettcher; grandchild Shaye Boettcher; mother Monica; brothers & sisters: James (significant other Sherri Olson), Mary Ellen Gagnon, Paul, Peter (Juanita), Michael (Jennifer) and Patrick (Sandy); father & mother-in-law Bryce (Jeanine) Cheatham Jr.; brother-in-law Jeff (Mylinda) Cheatham; surrogate kids: Moe and Curly; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father James; brother David; niece Traci Gagnon and nephew Jesse Gagnon.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish, 1712 Highland Ave., Eau Claire on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Francis Thadathil officiating. Visitation will be at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and again at the church from 10:00 am until the start of mass. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eau Claire County Humane Association, 3900 Old Town Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701.
