Growing up Richard enjoyed fishing at the lake, hunting, and waterskiing with his family. Going into his sophomore year of high school he met the love of his life, Carol Grill. After graduating from North High School, Richard attended college at UWEC for one year before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served for four years. Richard was stationed overseas in Taiwan. After his service he returned back to the United States and settled down in Eau Claire. Once settled Richard and Carol had two sons Scott and Dan.

Richard enjoyed his winters filled with the boys sporting events such as hockey and ski jumping. His summers were spent watching baseball and skateboarding. Richard was a devoted father to his two sons.

Richard loved baseball. He coached Babe Ruth baseball spending many summer evenings at Mt. Simon Park. Richard met many amazing young athletes and families. He spent 20 years coaching youth baseball, winning over 100 games as a Babe Ruth coach.

Richard worked for the Paper Mill (Cascades) for 38 years. Upon retirement from the paper mill, Richard bought a 55 inch tv and said “I will not miss one Brewer game all season.” He loved the Brewers and the Packers. Once retired Richard still found the time to make it to several youth and North High School sporting events.

The most important time he spent was with his two granddaughters. Richard enjoyed talking with and making his grandchildren laugh. He also enjoyed spoiling them with many treats.

Richard loved everyone unconditionally. He loved to talk and tell everyone stories. Richard enjoyed his visits from his good friend Randy Weichel who made him laugh about the times they had while working together.
