Richard Manthei

February 9, 1957 — June 27, 2024

Richard Peter Manthei, age 67, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Richard was born on February 9, 1957, to Richard Gene and Jean Elizabeth (Miller) Manthei.

Richard was born in Sheboygan Wisconsin and grew up on the North side of Eau Claire. He graduated from St. Bede’s Academy in 1975. He served in the Navy from 1975-1979. When Richard returned from the service he married his St. James the Greater 8th grade classmate, Lynn E. Showalter on November 17, 1979. He graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors in Marketing Education at the University of Wisconsin - Stout in 1988. He taught high school marketing in North Carolina and did substitute teaching for the Eau Claire Area School District 1989-1995.

Rich was an avid fisherman all his life and shared his hobby with his brother, grandchildren, and his wife. There were many Friday night fish fries enjoyed over his lifetime. He enjoyed telling stories or giving life lessons through wisdom he's gained. During many years providing care for grandchildren, he made homemade “Grandpa” noodles and bread. Rich liked keeping company with his dogs April and Grace. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and he served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John’s the Apostle Catholic Church.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lynn; children Faun (Nate) Manthei, Amanda Bluem, Richard (Alison) Manthei, Marcus (Madison) Manthei; grandchildren Emily, Eric, Athena, Matt, Ayden, Oscar, Ella, Lydia, James, Chloe, Joanna, Gabriel, Julia, Ruby, Creo, Amber, Lane and Khloe; and siblings Joni, Sue, and Paul. He is preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Mary. Rich will be dearly missed by family and friends.

A Prayer Service will be held Friday, July 5th at 6 p.m. at Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona with visitation starting at 4 p.m.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, July 6th at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s the Apostle Catholic Church, 35900 Lee Street, Whitehall, WI 54773. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to Mass with continued fellowship following Mass.
