Richard Bedward

September 26, 1942 — September 13, 2024

Richard Paul Bedward, age 81 of Fall Creek, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Dick was born on September 26, 1942 in Donald Township, Taylor County to William and Norma (Manson) Bedward.

Dick worked on the family farm in Donald, WI. He lived in Medford while going to Teacher’s College for 2 years. This is where he met Florence Avery. They married on May 27, 1967 in Black River Falls. Dick was drafted into the Army and served 3 years in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on June 5, 1970.

Upon returning home from Vietnam, the family moved to Fall Creek and Dick started teaching 6th grade. He taught math and science to a generation of students and many of their children, teaching there for 30 years until his retirement. His annual unit on birds was his personal favorite and something that many of his students remember fondly.

Dick spent countless hours supporting his kids and grandkids at all of their events. He was proud of each of them and their unique gifts and skills. Dick enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, scroll saw artwork, and bird carvings. He was a photographer and admirer of nature. He was happiest in the woods or on his boat fishing, a passion he loved sharing with others.

Dick was a humble and servant-minded man. He belonged to the Evangelical Free Church in Fall Creek, where he served in many roles and behind the scenes helping and caring for others. He loved to help in any way that he could with things like AWANA, men’s groups, and bible studies, and served as a Deacon and Elder.

We will miss him greatly.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; son Craig (Caroline); daughters: Angela (Charles) Bergeron and Rachel (Michael) Minner; 10 grandchildren; brother Arden; and sisters: Dorothy and Mavis.

Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers Bob, Wes, Glenn and Kenneth, and his sister Clarice.
