Richard Robert (Dick) Baer of Eau Claire, WI died on July 20th of ALS. He was born on January 13th, 1951 in Green Bay, WI. In 1975, Richard married Sara Solie in Door County, WI. Dick began his adult life as a shipfitter in Sturgeon Bay before moving to the Eau Claire area. He graduated from the industrial engineering program at UW Stout in 1980. After graduation, Dick worked at Northwestern Motor Company until its closure in the early 1980s then he joined Specor Systems Inc as a partner. He and his partner grew and diversified Specor Systems Inc. until its successful sale in 2003.
Dick was a master gardener, amateur geologist, and lifelong Green Bay Packer fan. He loved everything about nature — the weather, rocks, plants. He was fascinated by how things work. He enjoyed travel and he loved the views from his deck. Dick was a giving person. He was a dedicated supporter of Feed My People, Pablo Center for the Arts, the Eau Claire Free Clinic, and many other organizations and individuals.
He is survived by his spouse Sara, New Auburn, WI and his three sons — Gustav (Danielle) and sons Odin and Aksel; Karl (Beverly) and sons Isaac and Felix; Simon (Abigail), son Ezra and daughter Cleo. He is additionally survived by his brothers Frederick and Charles.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick Eugene Baer and Patricia Wood Baer. A memorial in Dick’s name is being made to:“ALS Care Services NW WI” — WI ALSA 3333 N. Mayfair Rd., Wauwatosa, WI 53222.They help families with respite care and items like vehicles and ramps and home changes that are not covered by insurance or Medicare.
