Rebecca Graf

June 21, 1963 — May 25, 2024

Rebecca Suzanne Olds Graf, age 60, passed away on May 25, 2024 after a 15-month battle with ALS.  She was born on June 21, 1963 in Eau Claire, WI to Don and Anita Olds.

Rebecca grew up in Eau Claire with her parents and sister, spending quality time with extended family and close family friends. She had a love of camping, dancing, volleyball, art, music, boating, golfing, traveling, quilting, and of course reading.  She graduated from North High School in 1981, and attended UWEC, starting her degree in English education. She later attended The University of Oklahoma finishing her Bachelor's degree in secondary education. She then went on to earn a masters from UWEC in Education - Professional Development. She continued with her love of learning in many ways including pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership earning her Educational Specialist degree.

Her love of education, learning and teaching started very early in her grandparent’s basement “school room” where she was always the teacher to her sister and cousins. She began her teaching career in 1989 for the Eau Claire School district, working at Memorial High School, Delong Junior High, and North High School. In 2001 she started a new career with Peak Learning Systems, where she blended her love of teaching and art. During this time, she presented at Teaching for Excellence institutes and academies, co-wrote and illustrated books for instructors to learn new teaching concepts. In 2008 she was recruited by the Charlotte Mecklenburg School District to become an English Curriculum Specialist and later promoted to Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she spent the next 10 years in her new roles in education. She then moved back to Eau Claire to be closer to family and became a consultant to the Eau Claire School district, eventually being hired as their Director of Academic Services.  She continues her love of education even in death by donating her body to UW Madison.

Rebecca is survived by her children David (Alicia Giese) Graf, Joseph Graf, former husband Michael Graf, mother Anita Olds, sister Molly (Dan) Peterschmidt, nephews Tom Peterschmidt and Ted Peterschmidt and great nephew Gavin, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her father Don.
