Peggy Hudson, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens in Altoona, Wisconsin. She was 95 years old.
Peggy Chapman grew up on the south side of Chicago. In 1946, she met Ralph Hudson, and they were married in 1947. They were married for 72 years until Ralph’s death in 2020. They settled in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1958, raising seven children (Rick, Jan, Caryl, Laura, Debbie, Diane, and Jeff).
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and her son, Rick. She is survived by her children Jan (Jeff) Krahn, Caryl (Rex) Bailey, Laura Faanes, Debbie (Dave) Horner, Diane (Don) Finley, Jeff (Sarah) Hudson, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered as keeper of the bottomless candy drawer, a skilled bridge player who did not appreciate losing, a Wheel of Fortune devotee who was first to solve the puzzle even in the final week of her life, a talented singer who could turn any sentence into a song, a travel lover who counted European adventures and sailing trips in the Caribbean as some of her favorite memories. She was always in the middle of a good book and was excited to showcase her acting skills in the Reader’s Theater in later years.
Peggy’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and elegance will continue to inspire all who knew her. To continue that legacy, donations can be made to Feed My People Food Bank – Eau Claire.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens in Altoona on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. The visitation will be at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM and lunch. The family would like to thank the staff at The Classic and St. Croix Hospice for providing empathetic care and friendship.
