Henry Lewis Jackson was born May 28, 1959, in Nitta Yuma, Mississippi to Bertha L. Hawkins.
Henry Lewis was affectionately known as “Lewis”. Lewis spent the early years of his life in Mississippi. At the young age of 9 years old he moved to Chicago, Illinois. Lewis grew up in the infamous Cabrini Green Housing on the northside of the city. He would receive most of his elementary education from the Chicago Public School system. He attended Edwin Cooley High School and later earned his G.E.D. Lewis always had a multitude of friends and a lot of people knew him at that time as “Keno” and Super Lou”.
Lewis would come to know the Lord because of his mother, Bertha Hawkins. She prayed to the Lord for her son to be saved. When Lewis would visit his mother, she took that opportunity to anoint his clothes and shoes with Blessed oil. Lewis would put those shoes on, not knowing that God had a plan for him. Bertha would pray for him earnestly, especially when she would participate in the rapture play at the church. As a result of her faithfulness and prayers, God granted her request. Lewis was baptized in Jesus name at Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church-Chicago, and then he later received the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues during one of the Rapture Play services on December 1, 1991.
During that time, Lewis longtime girlfriend Alvenia “Venie” Pruitt, went to Christ Temple-Chicago, the very next day and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. The next day after that, Lewis and Venie got married and he became a stepfather to her two sons Michael and Robert Pruitt. Venie became a stepmother to his son Jonathan Meachum. Venie preceded him in death.
Lewis wanted to tell everybody about Jesus. His life was not always cut and dry so he would testify about his life as a young boy going in and out of jail since the age 12. After Lewis had gotten saved and sanctified, He had a desire to join the Prison Ministry. He would minister in the Cook County Jail under the direction of Mother York. Lewis often testified how he use to go to the Cook County Jail through the back door most of his young life, and how God had allowed him to now go in through the front door, and he officially became one of the chaplains for the Cook County Jail. Lewis had a powerful testimony that he wanted to share with all that he could. He would preach on the street corners, CTA trains and buses, and in churches.
Lewis accepted the call to preach on December 24, 2000. Although, he loved preaching, he served in many capacities at Christ Temple-Chicago. He was a Sunday School teacher, Altar Worker, the 1st male Missionary Chairman in the history of Christ Temple-Chicago, and a mentor to several young men. Lewis made himself available for anyone to talk to him, He loved winning souls for Christ.
Lewis always desired to live his life as what he would call a “square”, settle down again, and raise more children. God gave him the desires of his heart and another chance at love. He met Pamela at Christ Temple-Chicago and they got married on February 14, 1998. Lewis affectionally called Pam his “Thick, Rich, and Chocolate”. To this union was born 7 beautiful children. Lewis was a devoted, loving husband, father, and friend.
After accepting the call to preach and starting his new life Lewis continued teaching and reaching souls. Then, August 3, 2010, at the PCAF National Convocation, Lewis became an ordained minister. Becoming Elder Jackson was a great honor, and an elevation in God for him.
In May of 2011 Lewis heard the Lord speak to him about becoming a pastor. Lewis was excited to except this new role to serve God’s people but remained prayerful. The call came within two days after hearing the Lord speak. Lewis began his journey to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. After visiting the church and the town Lewis said yes to God, to pastoring the newly named Christ Temple Apostolic Faith-Eau Claire. Lewis labored as pastor of Christ Temple-Eau Claire for 10 years. He diligently worked in the church, to transform it into a house of worship for the saints and the community. Within those 10 years as pastor, Lewis was on call 24/7 as the shepherd of the church, despite the obstacles he faced he stayed steadfast in his work for God, until he took ill.
