Nolene Harlson, 85, of Altoona, Wisconsin, passed away on April 30

, 2024.
Nolene was born to her parents, Paul and Mildred (Rosenthal) Borgwardt, at their home in Mondovi on September 30, 1938. She was delivered by her grandmother and a physician. She graduated from Mondovi High School and continued on to receive a Registered Nurse degree from the Luther Hospital School of Nursing in Eau Claire. She started her nursing career at Luther Hospital and worked there for 38.5 years.
Nolene and Fred met at a dance at the Moose Lodge in Eau Claire. They were married on April 28
th
, 1962 and had just celebrated their 62
nd
anniversary on Sunday. They loved doing things together.
She loved being a mom, grandma and great-grandma. Nothing could keep her from attending activities that her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids participated in, including hockey, baseball and soccer games, swim meets, show choir competitions, concerts and equestrian events.
Nolene was someone who always thought of and enjoyed doing things for others. One of her favorite sayings was that she never met a stranger. She enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know them. Running errands would always take a little longer than expected because she always ran into someone she knew, a friend, relative, coworker or former patient, and she had to stop and chat with them a bit.
She loved to send/receive handwritten letters/cards for holidays or special occasions. She also loved to text family and friends daily. She loved getting together for any reason she could come up with - holidays, especially Christmas, as well as birthdays, graduations, family reunions, etc.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed cross-stitching. She was a ham radio operator, N9MNA.
Nolene was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Fred; children: Lesa (Jeff) Green and Brian Harlson; grandchildren: Chelle (Russ) Shelafoe, Michael (Alba) Green, Jeremy Green, and Steven (Mikayla) Green; and great-grandchildren: Montana, TJ and Ryleigh Shelafoe, Hunter Green and Coleson Green.
Memorials can be made in her name to Sojourner House, Community Table or Feed My People.
