Michael Hageness

Michael Alton Hageness of Altoona, passed away unexpectedly on December 28th, 2024. Mike was born to Alton and Joyce (Monson) Hageness on October 24, 1959.

The first years of his life were spent in Eleva where he was known as Mickey. His early friendships were lifelong. When he was seven, the family moved to a dairy farm where he cherished the simple joys of farm life. He shared farm stories with loved ones throughout his life. He graduated from Eleva Strum high school, class of '78. His High School friends referred to him as Hagar. After graduating, he worked for Sears and then had a 30-year career with Walmart starting in the distribution center and then the retail store.

Mike married his loving wife Kay Davis in 2001. Kay shared her family, and Mike embraced her daughters and grandchildren as his own. Their furry family members were Sven and their Yorkie Mack. Mike enjoyed taking the dogs for walks in the woods along with watching and feeding the birds in their backyard.

Mike loved being with people and made friends fast. He had a knack for telling stories. He had an incredible memory, not only with jokes, but all the things from the past. He embraced his Norwegian heritage. He was a sports enthusiast and was a proud supporter of the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed golfing, Old Milwaukee beer, driving to the countryside in his convertible, and making people laugh.

Mike is survived by his wife Kay Hageness; daughters Heather (Tim) Kohrs and Wendie (Scott) Christianson; and grandchildren Caden and Macy Kohrs; and Ryley, Aubrey and Lola Christianson. He is also survived by his three siblings Sherry (Rob) Strohbusch, Doug (Krissy) Hageness, and Shelly Frank (Fred Krueger); brother-in-law Denny Davis; Aunts Lois Johnson and Ann Monson (Marie Hansen); and many nieces and nephew and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Alton and Joyce Hageness; mother-in-law Isabelle Davis; his paternal and maternal grandparents; brother-in-law Kevin Frank; Uncles Darrell Hageness, Clifford Johnson, Dale Sundby; Aunt Linda Sundby; and great niece Gracelyn Blazel.

A celebration of life will be held at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral home in Altoona on Saturday January 4th, 2025 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held an hour before the service. We encourage stories to be shared with family and friends over a light meal following the service.
