Mark Streit, 62, crossed over to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire after a long and courageous battle with a rare bone cancer. He fought valiantly and bravely.
Mark was born January 22, 1955 in Stanley, WI. He was the seventh child of Manferd and Alice (Berseth) Streit.
He graduated from Stanley-Boyd High School in 1973. In high school, he was especially interested in sports writing and was the official guy for high school sports in the school paper. From the time he was a small child, he followed his dad (who owned a construction business) wherever he went. His Dad took him to construction sites and taught Mark the business from the ground up. After high school Mark worked for Manferd Streit Construction for a short time. He then worked for Brown Builders. He also owned the Harmony House Supper Club in rural Stanley. During this time, he was the father to three children, built houses by day and ran the supper club by night.
In 1996 he joined Landstar Builders, became a partner and ran the company for over 20 years. During that time the company grew and built many buildings, from large commercial buildings to homes and condominiums. He was highly regarded by his customers and subcontractors alike for his craftsmanship and his personal attention to detail. He also became a realtor and not only did he do the building but also the selling.
Mark was fondly known for his incredible sense of humor. His motto was “always leave a person with a smile on their face”.
Mark was a long-time member of St. James the Greater Parish in Eau Claire. He was on the Finance committee for years and later on the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He was also a Eucharistic Minister. He was a spiritual man and touched many lives and hearts with his goodness.
He was recognized statewide for his community involvement and received the prestigious “Employer Support to Guard and Reserve Award” for support to his employees during the Iraqi war.
Mark enjoyed his lawn and garden, canning the produce, birding, collecting antiques and boating.
Mark leaves behind to mourn their loss partner Randy Schumacher, three children Jennifer (Dennis) Gruba, Jeffrey Streit, and Joseph (Patrizia) Streit. Three grandchildren: McKayla and Jeffrey Streit and Zoe Streit. Brother David (Julia) Streit, sisters Jane (Don) Savina, Marilyn Haas and Patty (Jim) Nesterick. Many Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and so very many friends.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, sister Mary Gail, brothers Charles and Richard and sister-in-law Susan. There is great rejoicing in heaven.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital for their care and attention to Mark during this difficult time.
