Marie Claflin

April 1, 1946 — November 28, 2021

Marie Elizabeth Claflin, name meaning “Star of Sea”, passed into the presence of the Lord peacefully on November 28th 2021 at the age of 75. She was born to Fredrick “Fritz” Fedie and Mathida “Tillie” Fedie on April 1st, 1946 in Durand Wi. She will always be remembered.

Beautiful and vibrant, she was raised by her parents, spending time on family farms in Lima, Eau Galle, and Maiden Rock WI throughout her childhood. She loved her family and farm life, and was a regular member of 4H. She also loved to sing, and was always a member of the high school choir. Being the eldest of 5 younger siblings, she was always recognized as their caretaker and was worshipped by the younger children. Thus began her love and future career as a caretaker.

Marie graduated from Plum City WI High School in 1964, and dated Jim Claflin from Elmwood WI. After graduation, she embarked on several journeys that brought her to such places as Mexico on mission trips with her sister, passionate about spreading the word of God. She moved to St. Paul MN and lived with Jim for a year while she worked at St. Paul Fire and Marine. On October 8th, 1966 Jim and Marie were married in Plum City WI. She moved to Eau Claire WI while Jim was stationed in Korea. Upon Jim’s return they lived in Georgia for a brief time. They moved to Ellsworth WI where they would be blessed with 6 children. Marie was a full time caretaker for the children their entire young lives. She lived in Ellsworth for the rest of her life.

In the late 80’s, Marie entered the nursing field to begin her lifelong passion of caring for people. She graduated with a nursing degree in the early 90’s and became a home health nurse, nursing home caretaker, and clinical nurse until retirement. She understood that life is nothing without love and care, and she provided both in abundance!
She had a magical smile that would melt anyone in sight, and was loved and admired by everyone she would meet. She found joy in all situations, but her greatest joy came from being surrounded by family. She found joy up until her final days surrounded by family and friends. She will always be treasured.

Marie is preceded in death by her Father and Mother, younger brother Richard “Dick” Fedie, and younger brother Doug Fedie. She is survived by her children, Jamey (Diane) Claflin, Trevor (Claudine) Claflin, Chad (Michelle) Claflin, Ann Claflin, Kevin Claflin, and Kristin (Joe) Coburn, 8 grandchildren Becky (Tyler) Frazier, Josh (Lauren) Claflin, Carissa (Adam) Christiansen, Lindsey (Dominic) Harris, Bailey (Jacob) Allison, Hallie Claflin, Landon and Dylan Coburn, and 8 great grandchildren.
