Lucia Dulita Winter passed away August 6, 2023, and was laid to rest in a meadow at Natural Path Sanctuary in Verona, Wisconsin.
Lucia was born in Aija, Peru to Daniel Antero Rodríguez Casimiro and Lucia Herlinda Gomero. Growing up in the Andes, she was close to her siblings, Pilar, Miguel, and Jose. She enjoyed playing futbol and volleyball with other children in her town. She graduated from Colegio Gabino Uribe Antunez and was crowned Miss Aija in 1964. A talented singer, she was known for performing at church and venues in her local community.
Her life changed when she met a young Peace Corps volunteer from Wisconsin. They married on Christmas Eve 1968 at the Iglesia Santiago Apostol and moved to Huaraz, Peru. In 1969, she and her new husband, Ron, moved to Wisconsin where she gave birth to her daughter Lynda followed by another daughter Michelle seven years later. Lucia worked as a Spanish interpreter for refugees at Ft McCoy and St. Elizabeth’s hospital. In 1982, Lucia and her daughters moved to Eau Claire, WI where she lived and worked for 40 years. Her greatest joy was being Grandmama to two precious granddaughters, Maya and Viveka Hanson.
A devote Catholic, she used her talent as an amateur gardener to decorate the grotto at Our Lady of Lourdes in Chippewa Falls. Lucia had a fun sense of humor calling out “musica!” in a quiet room and dancing with her granddaughters. She loved traveling to Mexico City where she would impromptu sing with mariachi bands and visit the Basilica de Guadalupe. Lucia will be deeply missed by her family all over the world especially her daughters and their families.
