Loren E. DeBord, age 88 of Eau Claire, passed away with his family by his side at Dove - West in Eau Claire on Friday, November 8, 2024. Loren was born on September 12, 1936 in Antigo, WI to the late Millard and Lorriane DeBord.
He went to the Antigo schools and worked on the family farm. Loren had a love for horses and would ride his horse to school. Growing up on a farm he would learn many things. He excelled at diesel mechanics, always tinkering with things.
Loren was a truck driver and then worked for Wisconsin Northern Transportation, a tour bus company. He started as a diesel mechanic and would work his way through the different company positions, retiring as the general manager.
In 1957, he married Jean Hage and they would have 3 children together. They later divorced. Loren met Betty Bay and they were married for 47 years. Loren and Betty lived on a hobby farm where they raised purebred Arabian horses. Betty passed away on January 30, 2024
Loren is survived by his children: Shelly (Dan) Hannafin of Eau Claire, Rick DeBord of Taylorsville, KY and Rhonda (Bob) Kunferman of North Carolina; step-children: Marcia (Bill) Hock of Eau Claire, Patti (Ken Slack) Bay of Wausau/Madison and Gary (Chris) Bay of Superior; granddaughter Katie (Quinn Evans) Hannafin of Inver Grove Heights, MN; step-grandchildren: Christin Root of Atlanta, GA, Tracy (Brooks) Harrison of Eau Claire, Brandon Root of Stanley, WI, Joe (Angie) Zitzelsberger of Waunakee, WI, Aaron (Sarah) Zitzelsberger of Oregon, WI and Holly (Scott) Holmquist of Superior; step great-grandchildren: Kateri Zitzelsberger, Lily Holmquist, Zakk Holmquist, Paighton Harrison, Jack Zitzelsberger and Grant Zitzelsberger; siblings: Doug (Audrey) DeBord of Hartland, WI; Phil (Joy) DeBord of Jackson WI, Brian (Sue) DeBord of Brookfield, WI; Barb Riedl of Slinger, WI and Debbie DeBord of Wauwatosa, WI. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona with Fr. Greg Bohren officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington.
