Lonnie Olson

Lonnie Gene Olson, age 77, of Altoona, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls. Lonnie was born on January 20, 1947 to Leonard “Goebel” and Mary (Piersol) Olson.
He graduated from Memorial High School in 1965. In 1966 he and his best friend William Buckley enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in the Buddy Program. After basic training at Camp Pendelton in Oceanside, CA, they were deployed to Vietnam. They were honorably discharged in 1968.
Lonnie and Bill started a propane business and after a few yrs they sold the business and started traveling the United States. The only state Lonnie didn’t visit was Alaska.
In 1976, he married Angie Grams. They had 5 children together: Amy, Daniel, Jonathon, Anne and Matthew. They would later divorce.
After retiring as a District Manager for a propane company, he moved back to Eau Claire from Luck, WI.
In 2003, he married a former classmate, Linda Clark. In 2005, they bought a winter home in AZ and sold it in 2016.
Lonnie enjoyed traveling with Linda to many National Parks out west, Bryce Canyon, Utah being their favorite. They also would go to Woodville, WI on May 17 (The Norwegian tradition known as "Russ" is a rite of passage for high school students who are about to complete their final exams). He enjoyed spending time with the kids and grandkids. One of his favorite things to do was to play slow pitch softball. He played for Houligans and Banker’s Life and played in many tournaments over the years and enjoyed going to sports and gun shows.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Daniel, step-daughter Mikelle Taylor and his best friend William Buckley.
Lonnie will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Linda; children: Amy (Dave) Brown, Jon (Carly) Olson, Anne Olson (Tim Marvin) and Matthew Olson (Jaide Litchfield); step-son Paul Clark; grandsons: Tyler (Bri) Marsceau, Teagan Marsceau, Colin Olson and Daniel Olson; step-granddaughters: Chelsea Clark, Kennedy Clark, Cassandra (Hayden) Swoboda, Gwyneth (Nathan) Buyze; and great-granddaughter Margot Swoboda. He is further survived by his sister Janet (Bob) Burgess; nieces, grand-nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life with full military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona with David Brown presiding. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
