June 15, 1948 — March 17, 2024

LeRoy L. Knutson, age 75, of New Richmond, WI passed away on March 17th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He fought a courageous 6-year battle with cancer, his own stubborn way until the very end. He was born in Amery, WI on June 15, 1948, to Lafe and Evelyn Knutson. He was a graduate of New Richmond High School in 1966 and was a Veteran of the Wisconsin National Guard. LeRoy retired from Andersen Windows in 2004.

LeRoy is survived by his wife Mary Knutson, siblings Bruce (Jan) Knutson, Wendell (Nila) Knutson, Liza (Kevin) Belisle. Children Andrew (Carrie) Knutson, Tina (Todd) Bottolfson, Lee (Anna) Knutson, Wendy (Brett) Lingen, Katie (Jacy Wolter) Knutson.  Grandchildren: Gavin, Gabe, Adeline, Cora, Elin, Lafe, Axel, Loretta, Elle, Abner, Thaler. Great Granddaughter: Lainey and many nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his father Lafe Knutson, mother Evelyn Knutson, brother Roger Knutson, and niece Ashley Knutson.

LeRoy married the love of his life and best friend, Mary (Charland) Knutson on August 24, 1974. LeRoy started his career at Andersen Windows in 1968. He also worked alongside his parents, Lafe and Evie, at Knute’s Bait where he trapped his own live bait. Many amazing memories were made with special family and friends while sponsoring the all-girls Knute’s Bait softball team. LeRoy and Mary had 5 children who he loved fiercely. He was very passionate and present in his children’s lives. LeRoy was active in the New Richmond Youth Hockey Association being a board member, president, coach, and mentor to all he knew. LeRoy enjoyed supporting his children and friends with an always open-door policy, everyone was welcomed and loved. He shared his love and knowledge of hunting and fishing with anyone who knew him, but never gave away his secret spots.

After the sale of their beloved hobby farm, you could find LeRoy on the St. Croix River walleye fishing or on Lake Michigan salmon fishing with his “First Mate Mary.” The shores of Kewaunee brought them much joy and the fulfillment of true lifelong friendship. LeRoy spent his winter months mastering the art of salmon fishing by watching YouTube. LeRoy shared his passion with anyone who wanted to experience the great waters of Lake Michigan.

He was known as the most amazing Boppa to his grandchildren, who meant everything to him. You would find LeRoy attending every sport, dance, band, choir, theater, and cheer events supporting his grandchildren. LeRoy was proud of his Norwegian heritage and passed on the traditions of lefsa, lutefisk and smoked meats to his family. Those that had the opportunity raved about his pickled fish and eggs. His love, personality and many talents will be missed by all.

A celebration of life is planned for Sunday April 21, 2024 at Butler Harmon American Legion Post 80 in New Richmond, WI from 2:00-6:00. The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy, consider donating to the LeRoy Knutson New Richmond Youth Hockey Association Memorial Sponsorship Fund. This sponsorship gives a child the opportunity to participate in the game of hockey that LeRoy loved.
