Leif Peterson
July 22, 1960 — June 29, 2024
Leif Christian Peterson passed away peacefully at his home on 6/29/24 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 63 years old.
Leif was born in Sebekah, Minnesota to Clayton and Helen Peterson (Krigsvold). He attended Central and Memorial High School in 1978, at 16 he started working at Eau Claire Press Company and worked there until 2007. He then worked for Aurora Community Services starting in 2008. He worked there until his illness started.
Leif married his soul mate Karen Kent, on January 12th, 1980. She always called him her pool boy. They had a truly amazing love for each other. Leif and Karen had one daughter, aka, puppy, who they both loved her with all their hearts. Sarah was a 24/7care provider for both her parents when they each got sick with cancer. It was an honor to care for them both.
Leif is survived by his daughter, Sarah Peterson, son-in-law Timothy Johnson, granddaughter Cora Johnson (Dylan Stanek), grandson Ivan Johnson, and great-grandson Oslo Stanek. sisters Sonja Peterson, Anita (Bruce) Randall, brother Robert Peterson, mother-in-law Nina Kent; sisters-in-law Julie (Jeff) Chamberlain, and Kristine Martin. Nephews Anthony Williams, Dakotah Blackcoon, and William Blackcoon, nieces Ingrid Melin, Grethe (Robert) Beebe, Jesse Chamberlain, Rachel Kent-Harvey, Laura Kent, Crystal Omar, Heather Blackcoon and one great niece, Ella Beebe.
He was preceded in death by his wife Karen (Kent) Peterson, and his parents Clayton Peterson, and Helen (Krigsvold) Sutton. Father-in-law William Kent, brothers-in-law Daniel Kent, and Michael Blackcoon.
Leif was also survived by his cat Oslo who he had for 19 years. Oslo was extra special to him as he shared him with his wife before she passed 17 years ago. Leif doted on Oslo and always made sure he had his favorite treats. His best friend Gary Kensmo has Oslo now Oslo has known Gary his whole life. Leif getting updates and being able to know that Oslo was happy in his new home with Gary gave him great comfort. He very much loved Oslo.
Leif was a rock and roll guy, you would never see him without a band t-shirt on, and most were from concerts he attended. He was a talented musician, who gave lessons, most recently to his grandson Ivan, whom he was very close to. Leif's final wish was that Ivan would get to see the Rolling Stones in concert. He made sure that happened. His last words were him pointing to a shirt from the concert, saying, "Did you go?" smiling afterward. Ivan going to that concert was so important to him. Leif played in many bands throughout the years. The Urge, Liquid Lunch, The Commercials, Quadrant 4, Landfill Park, and the Pheromones. Oh, how we will miss seeing him play.
This is a sad loss for the music community, I know it is felt by so many. There are too many great friends to name. He loved and cared for all of you.
Leif was an amazing person, a kindhearted and gentle soul. His heart never got over losing his wife Karen, he never took off his wedding ring, and he was ready to be reunited with her. There is comfort in knowing they are together again. I know we are all heartbroken over the abrupt loss of such a great person. We want to give special thanks to his friends Brian St. Arnold, Judy Cizik, Jimmy Roach, Gary Kensmo, Rick Foster, Billy and the gang from Revival Records (that was his happy place he was there every Friday). You all meant so much to him. He always said he was grateful to have such great friends. Also, his (favorite) sister Sonja, for the meals and snacks she made. He loved when she made Nuts and Bolts, she made sure he had them, and always made them with love for her little brother. We would also like to thank Mayo Hospice and his nurse Karen (loved that that was her name) for the exceptional care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at his daughter's home at 2629 11th Street, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, 54703, on Saturday, July 13th at 4:00 PM, rain or shine. We would like everyone to wear their favorite band t-shirt in memory of Leif and his love for music. Sandwiches and snacks will be provided, as well as Sodas and water--but bring your own drinks for the final send-off of Leif Peterson, a great man, wonderful husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, co-worker, bandmate, good neighbor, loyal friend. If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever.
