Larry D. Lyons, age 83 of Fall Creek, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at his home with his family by his side. Larry was born to Joseph and Geraldine Lyons (Vorce) on July 18, 1940 at Luther Hospital Eau Claire, WI.
The only brother to his 3 sisters, JoAnn Perry (Lyons) Eau Claire, Mary Jo Mai (deceased) and Cynthia Washburn (deceased). He was among those students’ 1
st
class to graduate at Memorial High School in Eau Claire in 1958. One month later he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served his country for 4 years total at Camp Pendleton in California and Camp Sukeran, Okinawa. He was in charge of his company’s ordinance (weapons repair) and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in July 1962.
On December 19, 1964 he married the love of his life and best friend Ardelle Gilmore and together had 3 children Wanda Shafer (David) of North Point, FL, Scott Lyons (Glenda) of Augusta, WI; and Dirk Lyons (Raschell) of Eau Claire. He worked many jobs including Huntsinger Farms, manager at Standard Auto in Bloomer, WI, Bell City Foundry in Racine, WI, a switchman at Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Milwaukee, an insurance agent for Banker Life and Casualty, a lead fuel transport driver for Holiday Station stores, and was owner/operator of Lyons Construction for over 40 years in the Eau Claire and Elk Creek Lake surrounding area.
Larry did volunteer work at the Marshfield Cancer Center in Eau Claire, taught classes at the Wise Nature Center in Fall Creek, taught classes at the American Senior days at UW Eau Claire and at the Phillips Senior Center. At his church, he served as a senior usher on the ushering team, was a trustee, church elder, taught Sunday school, and repaired cabins at the County Youth Camp in Eau Claire.
He is survived by his loving wife Ardelle; children: Wanda, Scott and Dirk; 9 grandchildren: Seth Shafer, Mathew Lyons, Mitchel Lyons, Samantha Lyons, Alexis Shafer, Chase Linderman, Jack Linderman, Anna McMillans and Cloey McMillans. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and sisters and brothers-in-law Cynthia (Roger) Washburn and Mary Jo (Herb) Mai.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona with Pastor David Irgens officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until time of service. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Cemetery, Eau Claire. Full military honors will be provided by VFW Post 305.
