Judy Matchey

Judy Matchey, 86 of Eleva, WI passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at her home in Strum. She was born to Bjarne and Irma (Gerri) Norheim, on January 4, 1939, in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated from Eleva-Strum High School in 1957. Judy was united in marriage to Don Matchey on September 21, 1957, having celebrated 65 years prior to his death.

Judy's working career was in the banking industry, working for United Bank and Partners Credit Union for 40+ years, and served as the CFO of Matchey Plumbing for 50 years. She was very active in the Eleva-Strum community and High-School, serving on the school and Eleva Lutheran Church boards. She was an avid Wisconsin sports fan loving her Badgers, Brewers, and Packers. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, early in life at the O'Neil Creek Campground, Las Vegas, the cabin on Lake Holcombe and many late night card games. Later in life her passion turned to quilting where she met many new friends and went on more new adventures. Judy was a very giving caring person, always looking to help those in need. She was an angel to many.

The pride of her life was family. She was very committed and active in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her daughters Donna (Todd) VanDenAvond and Cheryl (Ken) Rue; son Kirk (Nancy) Matchey; grandchildren she loved dearly, Callie (Joey) Stoutland, Garrett (Vanessa) Rue, Zachary (Johanna) Rue, Brett (Bailey) VanDenAvond, Jenna VanDenAvond, Marissa (Jack) Matchey and Alex Matchey; great grandchildren Emmett and Jack Stoutland, Piper, Fritz and Lila Rue; brother Lynn (Daneen) Norheim; sister-in-law Patricia McBride; nieces Diana McBride-Smith, Joy Norheim, Jill Norheim, Dawn Dowdle, Judie (Mike) Dowdle and Craig (Emily) Dowdle; special family friends Kandi and Gary Weltzien and their children Karly, Riley and granddaughter Sawyer; along with many other nieces, nephews, and friends.

Judy is preceded in death by her loving husband Don; parents Bjarne and Irma Norheim; brothers, Dennis McBride and Warren McBride; sister and brother-in-law Liane & Larry Dowdle; sister-in-law Mary Ann Norheim; niece Janet Norheim and nephew Dean Dowdle.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the Eleva Lutheran Church. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A celebration of life with lunch will be held immediately following the service at the Eleva American Legion Post 459 adjacent from the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Ronald McDonald House, Veterans Home of Chippewa Falls, and the Eleva Lutheran Church.
