Judy Kay Davis, 74, of Chetek, Wisconsin passed away on March 18, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN, on the eve of her 75
th
birthday. Despite enduring a three-year battle with lung disease, Judy continued to be her family’s model of courage and grace and never let it affect her kind and loving personality.
Judy Strong was born March 19, 1949, in Rice Lake, WI., the daughter of Kenneth and Marie (Koeberlein) Strong. Judy graduated from Chetek High school in 1966. Judy married Michael J. Davis on December 18, 1993, at the United Methodist Church in Chetek, WI. They were rarely apart and were blessed to recently celebrate their 30
th
wedding anniversary.
Judy loved gardening, caring for a wide variety of perennials in the flowerbeds on their property. She found pleasure in birdwatching and photography, combining both hobbies into creating homemade cards. When not outdoors with her flowers or keeping their yard immaculate, Judy entertained herself by completing jigsaw and word search puzzles, some of which she framed and gifted to family and friends. She also found great pleasure in watching her grandchildren’s sporting and music events and was so excited for what each of them had planned for the future. Judy and Mike spent countless hours “jumping in the truck” and traveling. Judy worked for over 30 years at Ohde’s Pharmacy, and she and Mike enjoyed meeting friends at Mary’s Café for breakfast. She was active in the Chetek Advent Christian Church as a member of the Harbor Lights Ministry and sang in the New Auburn Community Choir. Judy always had a smile on her face and was an extremely giving person, serving as Mike’s caregiver since 2012. She made numerous kinds of cookies each Christmas to give away to friends and family, always making sure each received their favorite kind. She will be greatly missed by the many friends and family who knew Judy throughout her life.
In addition to her husband Michael, Judy is survived by niece Stacy Winjum (Eden Prairie, MN), children Corey (Kara) Davis of Menomonie, Tina (Tom) Anderson of Hillsdale, Todd Davis of Chetek, seven grandchildren (Madison, McKinley, Carter and Harrison Davis and Brittny, Brianna and Tanner Saffert), as well as sister Patricia Brison (New Port Richey, FL) and nephew Robert Smith (Safety Harbor, FL).
Judy was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennis Gubrud, sister-in-law Marie Strong, her parents, brother-in-law Don Brison, nephew Scott Brison, brother Lyle Strong, sister-in-law Kathy Hofstede, nephews Stephen Davis and Steven Hofstede and a lifetime of furry friends whom she adored and cared for over her lifetime.
A visitation will be held at the Chetek Advent Christian Church on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 4-7 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 10 AM with a visitation one hour prior at the Chetek Advent Christian Church.
Flowers may be sent to Michael J. Davis (1024 24th St., Chetek) and will be delivered to the church. Memorials will be donated to Judy’s favorite charities.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses for the excellent care during Judy’s stay at Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire and St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. In addition, thank you to all those for their love, prayers and support during Judy’s hospitalization.
