Judith Grindall
June 14, 1943 — November 9, 2023
Judith Mary Grindall, 80, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Lake Hallie Memory Care.
Judy was born on June 14, 1943 in Norwood, Minnesota to the late Vernon Edward and Vivian Marie (Pieper) Bergmann. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Church of Peace and graduated from Central High School in Norwood.
She met the love of her life, Ted Grindall, while both were working for the State of Minnesota, and they were married on May 2, 1964. Shortly thereafter they moved to Eau Claire, WI where they settled down, bought a home on Lake Altoona, and started a family.
Throughout her life, Judy cherished her various jobs: apple picking, painting apartments, school cook, and bartending. While bartending, she had a “tips for trips” jar, saving money to take family trips to Florida and South Dakota. She enjoyed spending time with her family, celebrating Labor Day weekend together on Lake Altoona, and baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren to give to friends and family.
Judy was also an active member of the community. She was involved in Ladies’ Ducks Unlimited and a local snowmobile club in which she snowmobiled in winter and camped and boated in summer. She and Ted were both avid bikers and members of the Gold Wings Touring Association. Judy loved golfing and participated in the Ladies Leagues at Princeton Valley and Holiday Island. She belonged to Saving Grace Lutheran Church and attended weekly worship services. In her final years, she enjoyed winning at bingo, playing cards, making crafts, listening to music, and visiting with family.
Judy will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Gottfredsen and her husband Kevin, of De Pere, WI; her son, Geoffrey Grindall and his wife Kari, of Chippewa Falls, WI; her grandchildren Mikayla Eichman and her husband Eric, Nicole Gottfredsen and her husband Mouayad, Tyler Gottfredsen, Landon Gottfredsen, Collin Phillips and Easton Grindall; her great-grandson, Evan Eichman; siblings John Bergmann and his wife Karen of Cokato, MN, Sandra Elling of Detroit, MI, Michael Bergmann and his wife Kathy of Pepin, WI, Margaret Tellers and her husband Gerald of Delano, MN; sister-in-law, Marilyn Bergmann of Shakopee, MN; many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Ted and her first great-granddaughter, Chloe Marie Eichman; parents, Vernon and Vivian Bergmann; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Claude and Mildred Grindall; siblings, James Bergmann, Mary Jane Vegter and her husband Edward, Robert Bergmann, Rosalie Heiland and her husband Robert; brother-in-law, Richard Elling; and sister-in-law, Penny Bergmann.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 3735 Jeffers Rd, Eau Claire with Pastor David Irgens officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the church and one hour prior to the funeral service at church. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery in Chippewa Falls, WI.
