John Robert Vitek, 89, of Eau Claire, WI died on September 30, 2017 at Dove Healthcare -West, in Eau Claire.
John was born in Highbridge, WI to Jacob Sr. and Bertha Vitek on April 9, 1928. John enlisted into the Army from 1949 until 1952. While in the Army he worked as a radio man, an assistant cook, and as a runner when the radios were down. He married Virginia Bulmer on July 16, 1954; they were married for 63 years.
John enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter.
John is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, Gary (Jackie) Wampole; brother, Jacob Jr. (Bettey) Vitek; sisters, Cleone Derusha and Karen Sokol; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Sr. and Bertha; sons, Craig Vitek, and Rick Wampole; and siblings, Kenneth Vitek and Vera Lorge.
The Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway Altoona, WI 54720. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow the funeral luncheon at Forest Hill Cemetery.
