John Lancour
December 29, 1958 — July 29, 2024
John Edmund Lancour passed away July 29th, at his home after a short battle with cancer that he faced with an upbeat attitude every day and with his steadfast faith in the Lord. John was born to Edmund and Betty Jane (Fahrenkrug) Lancour on December 29,1958 in Kenosha, WI.
John graduated from Regis High School in 1977 and thus began a life filled with all the things he loved: traveling the country, road biking, camping, fishing, hunting, attending music concerts, watching the Packers and Brewers, making friends, and spending time with those he loved. Shopping and decorating, especially for Christmas, were also hobbies that John enjoyed. One of his biggest and proudest accomplishments happened in 1983, when he took an epic 6,000-mile road bike trip with friend Tom Plummer, lasting over 3 months from Santa Barbara, California to Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies and back to Carson City, Nevada. The trip was sponsored by the American Cancer Society and helped raise money for cancer.
He was a brother, uncle and friend who was selfless, generous and fun-loving. Having a good time was always the goal for John and he loved being around people. He was kind, upbeat and a good-natured soul. Many will remember John from his years owning various bars, especially Albertville Tavern in Colfax. He retired from Mayo Health System at 63 after working in Environmental Services for 15 years.
John is preceded in death and reunited with his parents Edmund and Betty Jane, step-father Donald Wright, sister and brother Mary and Paul, and his best friend and sister, Linda Boehm. He is survived by his sister Kay (Tom) Planert, who he loved deeply and was very proud of. His nephews Jason (Brenda) Boehm, Jeremy Planert and David (Lauren) Boehm and nieces Emilee Planert and Heidi Planert survive him alongside John's great nephews Jailin Boehm, Jaxon Boehm, and Maddox Boehm and great nieces Callie Planert, Kyleigh Kline, Zoe Boehm and Mila Boehm.
John is also survived by his first wife Patty Nowak and second wife Kathy (Stobb) Lancour. The family would like to give a special heartfelt thanks to the hospice team provided by Mayo Health, as well as to all the friends far and wide who offered support and love to John and to those who came to his Celebration of Life prior to his passing. A private service will be held at a later date.
