Jerry Mel Montgomery August 23, 1937- April 24, 2024
Jerry Montgomery went to meet his lord and savior on April 24 after a long battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Lincoln Nebraska on August 23, 1937 to Mel Gates and Bernice Montgomery.
As a native of Nebraska, it was only fitting that Jerry was a lifelong fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, cheering on his beloved big red for more than eight decades.
Jerry graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955, and served in the United States Army following graduation. Upon his discharge from the army, Jerry met the love of his life, Judy Elce. They married in April, 1960, and celebrated 64 years of marriage. After retiring from Pitney Bowes, Jerry and Judy began a new adventure, moving to Madison, Wisconsin, and later, to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Jerry's greatest love was his family. His always present smile got bigger whenever his wife, son, daughters, grandchildren or great grandchildren walked into the room.
Jerry is survived by his wife Judy; his son, Jeff (Anita) Montgomery, of Chesapeake, VA; daughter Julie (Paul) Concannon, of Omaha; and daughter Jana (Glen) Mabie, of Eau Claire. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Those who knew and loved Jerry mourn his passing, but more importantly celebrate a life full of love, adventure and caring.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 1:00pm at Lake Street United Methodist Church in Eau Claire, with Pastor Jerry Morris officiating. There will be a Visitation beginning at Noon until the time of the service, at the church.
Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is serving the family.
