Jean Elizabeth Johnson, 87, passed away on the morning of August 23rd, 2021. Born April 30th, 1934 in Rockford, Illinois to William "Morrey" and Marion Nelson.
She graduated from West High School and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Jean married her high school sweetheart Robert “Lee” Johnson on August 31st, 1957. During her physical education career, she was a well-known synchronized swimming coach. Jean and Lee went on to become restaurant owners in Rockford Johnson’s, Hickey’s, and Stash O’ Neil’s.
Jean was quite the athlete. She was legendary for her many skills and hobbies. Best gin player, water skier, swimmer, golfer, boat driver, decorator, dancer, ping pong player, bowler, runner, and calendar/card maker.
Jean and Lee enjoyed adventures. They traveled the world extensively with special friends throughout the years to places such as the Caribbean, South America, and Europe.
Jean enjoyed summer vacations at Long Lake, Wisconsin, and then spent the winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Jean had a huge personality and was known for her great sense of humor. Having fun was always a top priority along with spending quality time with her family. All of whom enjoyed her famous BBQ recipe.
Survived by her devoted husband, Lee, of 64 years, daughter Jill (Fred) Weaver, son Marshall (Amy) Johnson, her 7 grandchildren Kelly, Jaret, Rob, Dayvas, Lauren, Alina, Kirsten, and six great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of life for the immediate family will be held on Saturday, September 4th, 2021.
