James Larson

James O. Larson, age 92 of Eau Claire, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Milestone Senior Living in Eau Claire. He was born in Eau Claire County on the family farm on August 20, 1932 to the late Otis and Zelma (Miller) Larson.
He attended Fairchild schools and graduated in 1952. After graduating, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged.
Jim worked at Walter’s Brewery as an accountant and at the same time, took night classes to become a welder. Once he completed his welding degree, Jim worked for Phoenix Steel now called Veritas Steel until his retirement in 1991. In 1956, he met Marilyn Heisz at the Loop Bar & Grill in downtown Eau Claire. They would marry in June of 1958.
Jim was a hardworking man who put his family first. He was an avid deer hunter who was an excellent shot. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. Jim took his family on many vacations, including 5 trips to Europe.
After Jim’s retirement, one of his biggest joys was going to Heinie’s Barber Shop to play cards on a daily basis.
Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 53, United Steel Workers Union and the Elks Club.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Eau Claire; son Dave of Eau Claire; daughter Lisa (Frank) Murkowski of Michigan; grandson Shawn Wilson of Chicago, Ill; brother-in-law Tom Heisz of FL; sisters-in-law: Rita (Russell) Bennett of Wausau and Barbara Flickner of Baraboo, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents and siblings: Bill and Allan Larson and Alice Pingel.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 p.m. (NOON) on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona with Pastor Jeff Carlson officiating. Full military honors will follow the service.
