Jacqueline “Jackie” Ann Lane (Bernier), 68, Town of Eagle Point, died in her sleep, unexpectedly, at her rural Bloomer home on October 31, 2023.
She was born on April 7, 1955, in Chippewa Falls, to parents John and Yvonne (Bergeron) Bernier. Jackie grew up on the family farm and met her future husband, James “Jim,” while he was roofing her father’s barn. He did a headstand to impress her while he was on the roof. They married in 1977 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Chippewa Falls.
Jackie graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School and received her degree as a registered nurse from Northcentral Technical College in Wausau. She joined Jim in Milwaukee while he was finishing dental school and worked at St. Luke’s Medical Center, in Milwaukee. After Jim finished dental school, they started his dental office in Cornell, WI in 1978. Jackie started working at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Chippewa Falls, and remained there for over 25 years. She also worked at Oakleaf Surgical Hospital in Altoona, WI, before she retired.
Jackie enjoyed traveling. She took advantage of frequent flyer miles with trips to Africa, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, and multiple trips to Florida and Hawaii. She liked to downhill ski and attended group ski trips to British Columbia, California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. She liked going out to eat on Friday and Saturday nights. She would avoid phone calls to watch “Wheel of Fortune.” She was an avid online shopper and was always watching for sales. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren, Lilly and Max. She watched them at swimming lessons, softball games, ATV races, and summer activities. She enjoyed numerous pets and grand dogs over the years. She was proud of her children and their accomplishments.
She will be missed by her husband, Jim, of 46 years; her son, Ben (Cory), her daughter, Sarah; and grandchildren, Lilly and Max. She is further survived by siblings, Bob (Bev) Bernier, Pam (Gary) Bathke, and Dave (Kim) Bernier; a sister-in-law, Kathy Lane; her nieces, Colette Bauer, Brittany Zenner, Kelsey Stromquist, Katie Oliver, and nephew, Kevin Bathke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, Ward Lane, a niece, Kristen Bathke, a nephew, Korey Bernier, and brother-in-law, John Lane.
Jackie did not want a funeral, so a celebration of life will be held at the White Pine Pavilion in Bloomer, WI, on November 11, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jackie’s memory may be directed to the Community Foundation of Chippewa County, for a fund to be established in her memory.
