Jacob Thomas Moore lost his battle to himself on January 10, 2025, at the age of 31.
Jacob was born October 11, 1993, in Madison, WI to Gary and Karen (Huseby) Moore. He graduated from LaFollette High School in 2012 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Computer Science from UW-La Crosse in 2017. It was during his time in La Crosse that he forged deep, lifelong friendships and created cherished memories.
From 2017 to 2024, Jacob worked as a Technical Consultant for SAP and recently transitioned to a position as a Solutions Architect with NTT DATA. He approached his work with dedication and a desire to excel, earning the respect of his colleagues, whom he valued greatly.
Jacob embraced the opportunity to experience new places, living in various cities including downtown Chicago, Madison, Eau Claire, Charlotte, and Denver, before ultimately settling back in Chippewa Falls. He had recently purchased his dream home and was excited about decorating it and entertaining his friends.
Jacob possessed a brilliant mind, a quick wit, a generous spirit, and an insatiable curiosity. He had a remarkable ability to delve deeply into subjects that captured his interest, with a particular passion for history, especially early Roman history. A true film enthusiast, he could readily recall Oscar nominations and winners for any given year. He also enjoyed revisiting his favorite television shows, including Seinfeld, The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Sopranos.
Travel was a significant part of Jacob's life. From childhood camping trips in state and national parks, to a formative People to People trip to Australia, and later adult adventures to Bali, Canada, the Caribbean, England, France, Germany, and Mexico, he embraced exploring the world.
Jacob had an eclectic taste in music. Anything from the Big Band era to Bon Iver. I would like to think we gave him a good solid base, starting him out listening to the Beatles, Bob Marley, Dylan, Fleetwood Mac and John Prine.
A devoted dog lover, Jacob shared his life with several Huskies over the years, most recently his beloved Synnova.
Tragically, Jacob's inner struggles with anxiety and depression were hidden from those around him. Despite seeking professional help through counseling and medication, his pain became overwhelming.
Jacob's passing is a stark reminder of the prevalence of suicide, which claims an average of 135 lives each day in America and is currently the 11th leading cause of death in the United States. Open and honest conversations about mental health are crucial to breaking the stigma and providing support for those who are suffering. It is vital to remember that we are not defined by our thoughts, and that during times of crisis, access to coping mechanisms can be impaired. We must strive to do better in supporting those struggling with mental health challenges.
Jacob is survived by his parents Gary and Karen Moore, his half-brother Joshua Moore (Lanccia), his paternal grandmother Joyce Moore, his husky Synnova and many family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Berlie Moore and maternal grandparents Walter and Lillian Huseby.
The family would like to thank the Chippawa Falls Sheriff Department. A BIG thank you to his closest friends Riley (Lauren), Jake (Virginia), Josh (Shelby), Tyler and Bridget. Jacob also had many colleagues that he interacted with daily, as well as online friends that he corresponded with regularly. I am sorry that we do not know all your names. We do know that you all were very important to him. We believe because of you; he chose to stay on this earth a little longer. Thank you for all the kind words and stories you have shared on the guestbook. You all could have written the obituary. You knew him and loved him as much as we did.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Jacob's name to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) or any organization dedicated to suicide prevention and supporting survivors. They also encourage everyone to remember the fragility of life and to extend grace and compassion to all.
A celebration of Jacob's life will be held later this summer.
Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family.
