Poncho
Jack “Poncho” Ray Lahner age of 69, received his angel wings on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 with his wife by his side (10 days before their 35
th
year wedding anniversary). He passed away from a 10-year battle with cancer and other health issues.
Poncho was born August 17, 1954 to Derald and Gloria (Christianson) Lahner in Eau Claire, Wi. He was the youngest of four boys. He grew up in Shawtown and also resided there during his married life. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1973. Poncho married Jeannine Kent on December 9, 1988. For almost 35 years they were husband and wife, best friends and soul mates forever and ever and ever.
Throughout his life he was employed as a bartender at his parents’ tavern (Lahner’s Wheel Inn), a painter and retired from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (Mailroom Dept.) after 20 years of service. Poncho enjoyed camping (at his Happy Place in Birchwood), fishing, hunting, cooking, trail riding, bowling, cutting wood, his trips to Canada twice a year and just being in the outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Poncho is survived by his loving wife Jeannine, one brother Michael Lahner, two stepsons, Michael (Tina) and Thomas (Megan) Skoug, three step grandsons, Dakota (Tatum Mayenschein), Riley and Parker Skoug and one step granddaughter Mattie Skoug, two brothers-in-law, James (Cheryl) Kent and Jonathon (Sandy) Kent, Sr., three sisters-in-law, Sarah Lahner, Sherry Kent and Carol Grant and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, two brothers, Steve and Thomas Lahner, one step daughter Amie Jo Skoug, two sisters-in-law, Kathy Lahner and Jane Kent, one brother-in-law Jerry Kent, parents-in-law Alex and Irene Kent. Also, his long-time pet Beagle Missy. They will all greet Poncho with open arms and paws.
Anyone who was acquainted with Poncho knows what a great outdoorsman he was and how he loved to share his knowledge of it. He loved to share his expertise of cooking, too.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the Spring.
