Iva (Eckwright) Kernan, age 93 passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024, at The Classic on the Green. She was born on December 13, 1930, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Elmer and Mildred Eckwright. Iva grew up in the Town of Wheaton on her Father’s farm. She married her childhood Sweetheart and Moved to Eau Claire where they build a house near her oldest sister. She was a stay-at-home mom for most of her life raising her 6 children. Her house was a place where children came to play. When the youngest of her children grew up, she got a job at the Middle school in the kitchen. She joined Topps and became a Kopps member as well. She loved to play bingo, card games, camping with family and hated waterskiing (because she couldn’t stand up and bounced her bottom around the lake). She was also loved the adventures of the SASSY sisterhood (Special Aunts Secret Society) with her sisters and nieces Donna & Georgia. She was sweet and spicy with a good sense of humor and wasn’t afraid to say what she was thinking whether you wanted to hear it or not. She will be greatly missed by all.
We would like to thank The Classic for providing a safe place to live and the wonderful care they gave to our mom. You kept her “spunk” going strong, and your staff is amazing. And for St Croix Hospice for coming in and adding an extra layer of care and helping us through a very tough time.
She is survived by her sisters Jeanne Pederson, Judy Anderson, her brother Edward Eckwright (Janice), sisters-in-law Donna Langle & Mary Eckwright, sons Richard Kernan (Hilma), Dennis Kernan (Rhonda), Steven Kernan, Terry Kernan (Kim) and daughters Suzanne Beranek (Breyen), Kimberly Adams, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Richard Kernan, Father, Elmer Eckwright, Mother, Mildred (Webber)Eckwright, Sisters Marion Harper, Marcia Small and her brothers, David Eckwright, Leon Eckwright and Elmer Eckwright Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 (NOON) on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Central Lutheran Church, 28 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls, with Pastor Aaron Sturgis officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire.
