Ione L. Kroening, 89, of Ladysmith went peacefully with her Lord Jesus Christ on October 28, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital after a long and full life, with family by her side. Ione was born December 21, 1928 in Eau Claire to Henry and Myrtle Schlewitz.
She married Ervin R. Kroening on March 27, 1948 and was a loving and supportive wife for 67 years until his passing in 2015. Ione was very ambitious and a hard worker at a variety of jobs throughout her working years, including owning a couple of small family businesses.
Her 15 years as a CNA (certified nurse’s assistant) at St. Mary’s Hospital and Rusk County Memorial Hospital was the highlight of her working career and perhaps the most rewarding. She loved being a CNA and helping people, as displayed by her thoughtful, loving, caring actions and words of encouragement. Her infectious smile and kind words would bring hope and life to situations where it was absent.
Ione enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching major league baseball, and enjoying life to the fullest every day. Ione was a very loving, caring and faithful wife, mother, sister, grandmother (great and great-great), and friend to all who knew her. She was a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church of Ladysmith.
Ione is survived and deeply missed by her sister Marilyn Giwoyna; daughter Nancy Jenness; son David (Anita) Kroening; 5 grandchildren, Gary Jenness, Randy Jenness, Angie Lammers, Jonathan, Kroening, and Ryan Kroening; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; and a special niece Donna Kroening, along with many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Ervin, Brother Ronald, Sister Shirley Sigsworth, son-in-law Larry Jenness and grandson Ricky Jenness.
Stokes, Prock, and Mundt Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Altoona is assisting the family. Ione’s desire not to have any services will be honored. Online condolences can be left at www.stokesprockandmundt.com.
