Howard Edington
December 10, 1951 — December 9, 2023
Howard "Howie” Wayne Edington of Altoona, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday December 9
th
, 2023. Howie was born on December 10, 1951 in Eau Claire, the son of Stanley and Rosemarie Edington. He married Susan Porter in 1986, they later divorced, and together they had a son Stan who became his best friend.
Howie worked for Randall Graw, (AirGas), for many years, but his true passions in life lied outside of work. Howie's greatest joy and love was his son. He beamed with pride as he watched his son graduate high school, become a Marine, graduate college, get married and have his first grandchild.
He was an avid outdoorsman with a deep affection for teaching and coaching. Throughout his years you could find him teaching hunter safety and coaching youth trap at the Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club, his second home and family where he served on the board of directors for many years. From the time Stan could shoot a gun, Howie had him right there beside him shooting clays. Fall meant hunting, whether it was a family affair or just a few, gun and bow, you could always find Howie in a treestand waiting for the next "big shooter."
Howie's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his son Stan (Meghann) Edington, granddaughter Natalie, stepdaughter Sonia (Ryan) O'Neil, children Eugene, Cody and Siobhann. By two brothers, Gordon (Sandra) Edington of Rhinelander, Kenneth (Kathy) Edington of Altoona, and a sister Julie Smith of Eau Claire. As well as many nieces, nephews, his die-hard coffee crew and Eau Claire Rod and Gun family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Rosemarie Edington, as well as a younger brother Steven Edington.
Services for Howie will be on Sunday December 17
