Francis “Paula” Shook, 73, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on June 8, 2021 at Prairie Pointe Rehab Suites in Altoona of complications from diabetes.
Paula, and her twin brother Paul, were born on October 2, 1947 in Alliance, Ohio. In gratitude to her attending physician, her mother promised to name both twins Francis in his honor.
Paula and Paul always went by their middle names. Paula married Bill Bagley in 1961, although they later divorced, it was Bill who brought Paula to the Skagit Valley in Washington state, a place she loved dearly and considered home. Paula moved to Chippewa Falls in 2013 to be near her friend Ruth Lovejoy (Dale Vaudreuil) and their family.
Paula worked for the US government in Washington D.C. at the Pentagon before transferring to Washington state to work for the U.S. Forest Service in Mount Vernon and the I.R.S. in the Federal Building in downtown Seattle. Then Paula decided she needed to fulfill her sense of adventure, taking a job on an Alaskan seagoing fish processor traveling around the state for several years before settling in Bellingham, Washington. Besides traveling in Alaska and tending her beautiful gardens in Bellingham, Paula loved children and animals. She was known for her sense of humor and her loving touch.
Paula is survived by many cousins and nieces and nephews in Hartville, Ohio. First cousins: Nola Garman, Jim Van Camp, John Van Camp, and Marylou Holona. Other cousins include Susie Garman-Parrish, Sharon Bussie, Cheryl Van Camp, and many others. Her sister in-law Jeanne Shook and nieces and nephews Stacy Mita (Hideki), Scott Shook, and Steve Sainato (Amanda).
She is also survived by her dear friend-family in Washington state: Lynn Lahrmann (Lee), their daughters Sarah and Erica, Thomas de Forrest (Reshelle) and their daughter Larissa and her children Eli and Alana Gray, and her friend-family in Wisconsin, Ruth Lovejoy (Dale Vaudreuil) and their extended family. She had a special place in her heart for her adopted granddaughter Macie Theiler, and her parents Jennifer and Jeremy.
Paula was preceded in death by her dearly loved mother Bertha Viola Largent “Babe” and her stepfather Bill Largent. She also was preceded in death by her twin brother Paul in 2018 and her cousins Danny Van Camp and Bill Van Camp.
On behalf of Paula, we would like to sincerely thank the staff at Prairie Pointe. Thank you for keeping her safe and cared for during the long months of the Covid lockdown, and then again when she returned with her current conditions.
